Boating

Cascade Lake and Mountain Lake are the largest interior bodies of water on Orcas Island and both are available for visitors at Moran State Park to explore and enjoy.  Boating is an excellent way to experience these lakes’ true majesty and there are several options boaters can utilize.  Have a picnic on one of the large islets in Mountain Lake or go fishing in the wee morning hours on Cascade Lake, which is stocked annually by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Paddle boats and rowboats are available for rent at the Day Use Area of Cascade Lake during the summer season.  Boat ramps are also provided at the Midway Campground on Cascade Lake and near the Mountain Lake Campground.  Keep your oars and electric motor handy; no internal combustion engines are permitted on Moran State Park lakes.  A launching permit is required for use of the boat ramps; annual passes can also be purchased online at the Washington State Parks website.
